WeWork’s Journey to JAMstack
- WeWork has over 460,000 members, with locations worldwide
- Initially, WeWork used WordPress, but it wasn’t suitable for their needs
- In 2014-2015, WeWork started exploring static sites with React
- Performance, accessibility, best practices, and SEO were top priorities
- In 2016, WeWork decided to join the JAMstack ecosystem
- JAMstack allowed them to offload infrastructure and focus on application development
- The team used Netlify, Smartling, Contentful, and other tools to build and deploy static sites
- The marketing website was one of the first sites to be rebuilt as a static site
- The new setup allowed for faster development and deployment
- WeWork saw a 2-3x increase in lead conversion after switching to static sites
- The team continues to use JAMstack for new projects and is exploring other technologies like Gatsby and Vue
- The transition to JAMstack was simplified by using connectors like Smartling and Contentful
- WeWork was able to achieve faster load times and improved performance
- The JAMstack setup allows for easier scalability and less technical debt
- WeWork is now a global organization with over 2,000 pages and supports 1,400 startups across 34 cities
